I was born in Gunma, but lived in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, for a long time. My first encounter with the outside world was through reading books and watching movies. Determined to acquire English, I made a big announcement at the age of twelve that I’d study abroad. A few years later I was in Vancouver attending high school as an international student. I was astonished by the multi-culturalism, and published a small essay in a local Japanese newspaper: “I was ready to be an outsider, yet people took me in just as one of their friends. I perfectly blended in.” Back in Kyoto, I kept studying English, majoring in English literature for my B.A. and translation study for an M.A. Later on, I also pursued B.A. in Education. I traveled to and lived in Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, biking and hiking. I taught both English and Japanese languages at universities, and worked as a translator and interpreter in various areas. I live in B.C., Canada with a husband and a daughter.
